I read this exerpt recently from the book Eat, Pray, Love and it struck a cord.
"...people universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will maybe descend upon you like fine weather if you're fortunate enough. But that's not how happiness works. Happiness is the consequence of personal effort.
You fight for it. Strive for it. Insist upon it. And sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations for your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it. If you don't you will leak away your innate contentment."
Last year I did a good job of seeking happines. I pursued it. I got to the point that I felt really happy all the time. Then, like most people, I quit focusing on it. I quit being active. I quit reading and writing positive affirmations. I just let it slip away. Not that I'm unhappy now, just not as happy. It really is something that takes a conscious effort.
So here's to refocusing on the relentless pursuit for happiness! One (nerdy) thing that makes me happy is lists. You will begin to see lots and lots of lists. Yay!
XOXO!

You are so flipping beautiful, I just wanna hug you!
I've found the older I've gotten the easier it is to let that focus slip with day-to-day routine. When I'm in those times of happiness I find myself just driving home from work and feeling happy. Good post, something we all need to strive for. -- I need to reread that book before the movie comes out. Glad to see you enjoyed your cruise!!
@ Lynn - Thank you friend. You are beautiful and can hug me anytime!
@ Amber - Thanks! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like this!!
